Early in the 2022 season, it seemed as though Tua Tagovailoa had solidified himself as the Miami Dolphins’ franchise quarterback.
Unfortunately, his MVP-caliber season was derailed when he suffered multiple serious head injuries. These concussions resulted in a sudden shift around the league, calling Tua’s football future into question.
According to NFL insider Josina Anderson, the Dolphins are “exploring all quarterback options” this offseason before making a decision on Tua’s longterm contract future.
The Dolphins have until May 1 to decide whether or not they exercise Tua’s fifth-year option. The team doesn’t have any first-round picks in this year’s draft, but they’re no doubt doing their homework on this year’s crop of quarterback options.
Ravens QB Lamar Jackson, who’s currently locked in contract negotiations of his own, has also been mentioned as a long-shot option to make his way down to South Beach.
While the Dolphins will explore other options this offseason, it seems Tua is the most likely decision.
“We both want him to play at a very high level for a long time for the Miami Dolphins,” head coach Mike McDaniel said last week.
