Fox Sports’ Colin Cowherd prides himself on being an outside the box thinker. But his recent thoughts on who will win the AFC East this year have fans ranging from confused to outright angry.
On Thursday’s edition of The Herd, Cowherd shied away from the defending division title-holding Buffalo Bills or the trendy New York Jets and instead picked the Miami Dolphins to win the division in 2023. Cowherd said that between Miami’s hire of Vic Fangio and Buffalo having issues with Stefon Diggs, the Dolphins will be on top of the division this year.
“A. This whole Stefon Diggs ‘cancel minicamp’ thing is a bigger story than people are letting on. That is clear. Secondly, Vic Fangio’s defense. The people I trust in the league say he is the best acquisition Miami made – not Jalen Ramsey. Watch that defense. It is getting copied all over the league. Also I get an offense coach, Mike McDaniel against a defensive coach (in Buffalo’s Sean McDermott). I watched McDaniel outcoach him three times last year and I think Miami’s better and I’m not sure Buffalo is,” Cowherd said.
Dolphins fans were happy to accept the praise from Cowherd towards their team after months of him speaking negatively about quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. Fans of the other three AFC East teams were a little less thrilled:

The AFC East has been a massive arms race this offseason. Just about every marquee free agent has been linked to an AFC East team at one point and many of the remaining free agents still are.
The biggest shift in the balance of power may have been the New York Jets acquiring Aaron Rodgers, but all four teams made dynamic moves. The Patriots added Bill O’Brien to their coaching staff, the Dolphins added Fangio and All-Pro cornerback Jalen Ramsey, and the Bills added Super Bowl pass rusher Leonard Floyd.
