NFL Owner “Badly Wanted” To Trade For Tom Brady

April 10, 2022 by The Spun

The Miami Dolphins knew bringing in Tom Brady would add legitimacy to their franchise; and also serve as a distraction from a damning lawsuit. Miami was reportedly itching to add the GOAT to its team, while also giving him a stake in ownership.

On Friday, the Boston Globe‘s Ben Volin laid out Stephen Ross’ plan to bring TB12 to South Beach. A plan that was rumored to be scrapped after the aforementioned Brian Flores-discrimination lawsuit.

“Ross badly wanted Brady — in part to bring sizzle to the Dolphins, in part to stick it to the Patriots,” Volin explained. “For Brady, it was an opportunity to get into the business side of the NFL, with the goal of one day fronting his own ownership group.”

The Globe writer went on to write that Brady had “two big connections” within the organization.

“One is the University of Michigan; Brady is its star alumnus, and Ross has his name on its business school,” Volin noted. “The other is Dolphins minority owner Bruce Beal, who is Brady’s friend and has joined Brady on at least one trip to the Kentucky Derby.”

When Tom Brady retired, he was going to be introduced as part-owner of the Dolphins, per @ProFootballTalk & @BenVolin.

Miami reportedly planned to pursue Sean Payton, then add Brady at QB too.

A recent report alleged that Ross pushed Brian Flores to try to illegally recruit Brady to Miami back in 2019. With the idea of Tom Brady starring as the Dolphins QB and minority owner; with former Saints coach Sean Payton running the show on the sideline.

But as we know, Ross’ designs fell through. And after a brief retirement, Brady is set to return to the Bucs this coming season.
