NFL World Reacts To The Raheem Mostert Decision News

Raheem Mostert will run it back in South Beach.

According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the Miami Dolphins re-signed the running back to a two-year, $5.6 million contract with $2.2 million guaranteed. Mostert returns to Miami after accruing a career-high 1,093 scrimmage yards on a one-year deal last season.

Fans believe the Dolphins retained Mostert at a great value considering his production when healthy.

“Absolute steal,” Luke Smith wrote.

“Love this deal,” a fan said. “Injury prone and old back so you get him for dirt cheap, but at the same time he’s still perhaps the most explosive back and all of football.”

“This is a great deal for a good back,” Robbie Mead said. “Makes me think we will take a back early in the draft.”

“I know the prospects of getting [Austin] Ekeler, [Derrick] Henry, or even [Nick] Chubb is appealing, but this is a good move,” another fan wrote. “Mostert’s a good player and this is awesome value. Another good signing by [general manager Chris] Grier.”

After playing just one game in 2021, Motert missed just one last year. He averaged 4.9 yards per carry on 181 carries, easily the most of his eight-year career.

Teams are reticent to give big money to running backs, especially a 30-year-old averaging 9.4 games played per season. Yet those concerns allowed the Dolphins to snag a potentially prolific starting running back at a minimal investment.

Miami can continue adding through free agency, the draft, or even a trade to replace Myles Gaskin and Jeff Wilson Jr. Mostert paid off a low-risk, high-reward signing last year, so the Dolphins went back to the well for a similar investment.
