Phinsider Question Of The Day: Is It Selfish Or Smart Edition

June 24, 2025 by The Phinsider

Two seasons ago, Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill stated that his goal for that season was to surpass 2,000 yards receiving. Even though the offense was seemingly designed to get Hill the ball on every play if possible, he still fell short of the 2K mark. He then returned last season and claimed that the goal was selfish and not team-oriented, and that he would no longer pursue the two grand. Well, as it seems to be with Hill, a new season brings a new perspective, so here we are—having come full circle—and Tyreek is once again reportedly aiming for 2,000 yards.

So, what has changed? Is what was once clearly considered selfish by Hill not now seen as selfish, even though it’s the same behavior? I, for one, don’t believe that the offense operates at its best when you seem to force the ball to one guy on every play, regardless of how well he is covered. Two years ago, when he nearly reached 2,000 yards, it looked like the team was intentionally funneling the ball to Hill on almost every play. No quarterback can perform at his best when he’s mainly focused on getting the ball to just one receiver and always waiting for that one guy to become open, ignoring other potentially open targets. Either way, is Hill’s personal goal a good idea for the team’s second-highest-paid player?

So tonight’s Phinsider Question Of The Day is:

Do you find Tyreek Hill’s goal of 2,000 yards receiving a selfish endeavor that only hurts the team as a whole, or one that a player of his level should be seeking and that is, in fact, beneficial for the team?
