Mostert criticizes Miami Dolphins after trade of Pro Bowl tight end.
The Miami Dolphins and Pittsburgh Steelers consummated a blockbuster trade on Monday that sent cornerback Jalen Ramsey and tight end Jonnu Smith to the Pittsburgh Steelers for safety Minkah Fitzpatrick and a late round draft-pick swap.
The trade was applauded by some and criticized by others, but count former Miami Dolphins running back Raheem Mostert as someone who was not a fan of the move.
In a social media post, Mostert had this to say about Miami jettisoning their Pro-Bowl tight end:

Mostert played for the Dolphins for three seasons — earning a Pro Bowl nod himself after a 2023 campaign that saw the back run for 1,012 yards and a franchise record 18 rushing scores. Following that season, Mostert signed a contract extension with Miami, but following an injury riddled year in 2024, he was cut and subsequently signed with the Las Vegas Raiders. Clearly, that move didn’t sit well with the now 33-year-old player.
The trade of Smith comes after the tight end made his frustrations known regarding his contract with the Dolphins. Smith’s agent — Drew Rosenhaus — said the tight end’s preference was to stay in Miami, but with a significant raise in pay. Instead, the Dolphins packaged Smith with Ramsey to re-acquire Fitzpatrick who was originally drafted by Miami in the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft.
The Dolphins seemingly remain focused on getting younger — and cheaper — while they look to re-tool their roster in an effort to remain competitive in the years to come.
