The Miami Dolphins require a new defensive coordinator after they parted ways with Vic Fangio on Wednesday.

Fangio is expected to be the new defensive coordinator of the Philadelphia Eagles since his family lives in Pennsylvania.

The Dolphins and Vic Fangio have mutually agreed to part ways, sources tell me and @JFowlerESPN. Fangio now will be the top target for the Philadelphia Eagles to hire as their defensive coordinator, and a deal is expected. With the Dolphins defensive coordinator job open, there’s going to be a lot of interest in the gig. One former head coach who could be a candidate for the job is Brandon Staley, per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

Vic Fangio nearly landed with the #Eagles last year, and they currently have a defensive coordinator opening. Meanwhile, former #Chargers coach Brandon Staley is available and would be a candidate in Miami. https://t.co/qiAV5SPYxr

Staley is the former head coach of the Los Angeles Chargers and was fired during the 2023 season. He compiled a 24-24 record in 48 games as head coach.

As a coordinator, this move could make sense since he’s considered to be one of the bright young minds in the NFL. Yes, his time with the Chargers didn’t work out but he can still call a defense.

It remains to be seen what Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel does with the DC opening.
