Few jobs in all of sports are as hard to maintain as an NFL quarterback. And for one quarterback, persistent struggles to get on the field have led him to walk away at age 28.
According to Chris Tomasson of the St. Paul Pioneer Press, quarterback Jake Rudock has retired. Rudock most recently had two stints with the Miami Dolphins, but did not see a snap in either of those campaigns.
Rudock finishes his NFL career with 13 total snaps – four on special teams and nine under center. In his lone appearance at quarterback with the Detroit Lions in 2017, Rudock went 3-of-5 for 24 yards and an interception.
Jake Rudock was a sixth-round pick by the Detroit Lions in 2016. He spent three seasons in Detroit before joining the Dolphins on a reserve/future contract in 2019.
I’m told that QB Jake Rudock, who played in college at Iowa and Michigan and had NFL stints with the Detroit Lions and the Miami Dolphins has retired from football. Rudock, 28, last was in the NFL with the Dolphins to finish last season.

Jake Rudock found much more success in college, as quarterback first for the Iowa Hawkeyes and later the Michigan Wolverines.
In 2013, his first year as a starter at Iowa, Rudock completed 59-percent of his passes for 2,383 yards and 18 touchdowns plus another five touchdowns on the ground. He saw some improvement the following season, but transferred to Michigan the year after.
In his lone season with the Wolverines, Rudock completed 64-percent of his passes for 3,017 yards and 20 touchdowns. He finished his college career with a Citrus Bowl win over Florida – the only bowl win of Jim Harbaugh’s Michigan tenure to date.
Good luck in retirement, Jake.
