Report: “Zero Doubt” Tom Brady Would Have Been Approved As Dolphins Minority Owner

April 23, 2022 by The Spun

Bucs quarterback Tom Brady on Sunday afternoon.

One of the biggest rumors this NFL offseason involves Tom Brady and the Miami Dolphins. It’s been reported by multiple league insiders that Brady was going to retire, join the Dolphins as a minority owner, and then come out of retirement to play quarterback for Sean Payton.

Apparently, this elaborate plan was derailed by Brian Flores’ class-action lawsuit against the NFL.

If the Dolphins didn’t pull the plug on this rumored plan, at least 24 owners would have had to approve Brady as a minority owner. According to Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk, that wouldn’t have been an issue.

“Some are suggesting that the owners may not have approved the sale of a piece of the Dolphins to Tom Brady,” Florio said on Friday night. “A source with intimate knowledge of the approval process tells PFT there’s ‘zero chance’ he wouldn’t have been approved.”

Florio pointed out that sales to minority owners in the NFL are easily passed by ownership.

“Second, and as the source explained it, below a certain level these sales of slivers of franchises to minority owners are rubber stamped by the NFL’s finance committee and, in turn, easily passed by ownership,” Florio wrote.

Brady has not yet commented on this rumor. Payton, however, recently told reporters that he was unaware of this story.

“I have no clue about the Tampa Bay-Miami Dolphin-Tom Brady rumor,” Payton said, via Sporting News. “My understanding is, there was a request put in where the intermediaries talked. I’m like the rest of you, I heard that story.”
