Saints OT James Hurst discusses how big of a loss Terron Armstead is

June 21, 2022 by Dolphins Wire

When the Miami Dolphins signed former New Orleans Saints left tackle Terron Armstead to a massive five-year contract worth up to $87.5 million back in March, it was clear that he was a priority.

Miami, with Liam Eichenberg at left tackle, had one of the worst offensive line units in the league, so they needed Armstead to stabilize the group and be a leader to a bunch of young linemen.

He hasn’t been able to participate in the Dolphins’ offseason program to this point, but he’s done his best to work with the guys on their technique and form.

His former teammates in New Orleans are feeling the impact of his departure, as left tackle James Hurst recently spoke about the loss of Armstead.

“It’s very different,” Hurst said. “You know, he’s a great presence. He’s a great leader, a great player. (There are) so many great things about him, and I think his void is going to have to be filled by a number of different people. It’s not going to be just one person step in and say ‘Hey, you’re taking all of Terron’s responsibilities, whether that’s on game day, whether that’s day-to-day on the field, whether that’s day-to-day in the locker room or even in the community.’ There are so many great things that he did for this team, this city, so we’re going to have to have guys step up.”

Hurst spent two years with Armstead in New Orleans, and he was clearly impacted by the player and man that the veteran left tackle is. Armstead responded to the quote on Twitter on Tuesday.

🥲🥲🥲 appreciate the love James! https://t.co/7OKzafz148

It’s great to be constantly reminded that the Dolphins added another solid leader to a team that seems to a roster that seems to have a fair number of them.
