A torn meniscus limited Miami Dolphins standout cornerback Jalen Ramsey to only 10 games in 2023.
When he was on the field, Ramsey played almost exclusively on the right side of defensive coordinator Vic Fangio’s unit. It sounds like that will be changing in 2024.
In his first press conference since becoming the Dolphins’ new defensive coordinator, Anthony Weaver referred to Ramsey as “the ultimate chess piece” and indicated the seven-time Pro Bowler will be moving around next season.
“To have him sit outside and be a field corner or something like that, I think is a detriment and we got to find ways to move them around where he can be most impactful,” Weaver said, via Daniel Oyefusi of the Miami Herald.
Despite missing time due to his knee injury, Ramsey was still able to make the Pro Bowl in 2023. In 10 games, he recorded 22 tackles, three interceptions and five passes defensed.
Following the season, Ramsey wished Fangio well after he was let go by the Dolphins and became the new DC of the Philadelphia Eagles, but did not appreciate comments made by former Eagles quarterback Ron Jaworski, a friend of Fangio’s, which suggested that some players in Miami didn’t work hard enough.
“If Vic said that, then I would say that he should be man enough to address who it is. I don’t think Vic said that, though,” Ramsey said. “Personally, I don’t think Vic would do that. I know how I worked, for damn sure. And I know how I led the other guys in that secondary and I know how we worked.
“But yeah, at the same time, we weren’t couch potatoes.”
