Tampa Bay Buccaneers seven-time Super Bowl-winning quarterback Tom Brady announced his decision to un-retire and play another season in the National Football League last weekend.
“These past two months I’ve realized my place is still on the field and not in the stands. That time will come. But it’s not now. I love my teammates, and I love my supportive family. They make it all possible. I’m coming back for my 23rd season in Tampa. Unfinished business LFG,” Brady announced on Twitter last Sunday night.
Brady, 44, was only retired for about a month. He announced his decision to un-retire and play another season last weekend.
Was playing for the Buccaneers his No. 1 plan all along, though?
According to reports, Brady had interest in playing for the Miami Dolphins, potentially receiving an ownership stake in the franchise.
“I know that’s true because I heard it independently, and I know I heard it from a different source than Mike Florio heard it,” Ben Volin said. “So that to me is the key. …
“Brady was gonna go run the Dolphins, and then Brian Flores files his lawsuit and throws a wrench in the entire thing. Now all of a sudden you’re worried about cell phones and discovery and all this stuff, so Brady, they scrap those plans. So now Brady’s looking at it, ‘Well, what am I gonna do? Sit around on my couch for a year? No, I might as well go play football.’”
It will be interesting to see if Brady ever addresses the offseason speculation.
One thing is clear now, though: Brady will be suiting up in Tampa Bay in 2022.
