Top “Bargain-Bin” NFL Free Agent Could Sign Soon – Top 4 Fits

July 5, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Football

After spending just one season with the Miami Dolphins, free agent quarterback Tyler Huntley could find a home soon at the right price. According to Bleacher Report, the source put together a list of possible cheap free agents that are willing to at least sign for a one-year deal, and Huntley is at the top of the chart. Originally selected as an undrafted rookie in 2020, the former Utah product spent the first three seasons with the Baltimore Ravens, but never made the starting team due to the emergence of MVP Lamar Jackson. Huntley never really had a chance to make the full-time duties either way, as Jackson has carved out that would take over for Baltimore for a long time.

However, he did have a Pro Bowl season in 2022, where he picked up the slack due to Jackson’s injuries, so the talent is there. Huntley would need to be put in the right situation at a good time. He isn’t the best available free agent and will probably never be a starter in the league, but he has the drive to maintain consistency for a team that needs a backup option as a crucial veteran piece. If a team has a quarterback who suffers an injury during the 2025 campaign, Huntley could at least keep the roster afloat.

He won’t be the long-term answer, but these five teams may take a chance on him.

Possible Destinations

New Orleans Saints

Why not? The New Orleans Saints have one of the worst quarterback units in the league after losing Derek Carr to retirement. Between Tyler Shough and Spencer Rattler, it’s really anyone’s starting spot up for grabs, and since that’s the case, they should get a safe veteran on a bargain deal like Huntley to solidify their department. General Mickey Loomis doesn’t want to rebuild, so it wouldn’t be too much of a surprise if they sign Huntley to keep him around and mentor these two unproven signal-callers.

Washington Commanders

Meanwhile, the Commanders are not in the market for a quarterback, but they could always salvage the department. Veteran Marcus Mariota is coming back on another deal, so no one should be taking his backup spot. However, they could use someone like Huntley to continue to refine Jayden Daniels‘ skill in running the ball and catching a quick lane to gain easy yardage to move the chains.

Dallas Cowboys

However, the Dallas Cowboys finally have two reliable quarterbacks on their roster since Cooper Rush didn’t give this unit much longevity to be a backup anymore. After trading for Joe Milton, one could argue that Dak Prescott could be on the hot seat, and if they wind up trading him, the Cowboys will need a backup either way. Don’t expect Jerry Jones to trade Prescott anytime soon, if he even does, but someone like Huntley could be a solid third-string to mentor at least Milton.

Carolina Panthers

Just because head coach Dave Canales regained confidence in quarterback Bryce Young doesn’t mean he won’t bench him again. The Carolina Panthers have finally built a high-caliber wide receiver room after drafting Tetairoa McMillan. The team has a lot of promise to change things around offensively. Despite signing Andy Dalton to a few more years, it wouldn’t hurt to add Huntley in the mix if they want a younger talent over Dalton to help them to at least a wild-card if Young continues to struggle.
