If the Philadelphia Eagles make it back to the Super Bowl, top impending free agent Jaelan Phillips could earn a huge payday with another team once the 2025 campaign is over. According to a source, Bucky Brooks made a list of pending free agents that could land a massive contract this upcoming offseason, including Phillips. After being traded to the Eagles this year before the deadline last month, the team saw a dramatic difference upon reuniting with Vic Fangio. Phillips lifted the team’s defense ranked 19th in points allowed per game and 16th in yards allowed per play.

The presence of Phillips has lifted the pressure off of Jalen Carter and other edge rushers in situational moments. Phillips has done an outstanding job of covering for Nolan Smith, who was on injured reserve. Originally selected as a first-round pick, the former Miami Dolphin was dominant through the first two seasons in his career, recording 103 tackles, 15.5 sacks, three fumble recoveries and 41 quarterback hits.
Since the Dolphins weren’t a winning team this season, the team sent him to the Eagles for a draft pick. The young pass-rusher has a bright future for any team that will be looking for a long-term fix on their edge. Phillips will be chasing for a ring, but if he doesn’t acquire it in February, he could do it elsewhere with these teams next season.
Potential Destinations
Dallas Cowboys
The Dallas Cowboys have built arguably one of the best interior defensive lines this year, acquiring Kenny Clark and Quinnen Williams in trades. While their trades before the deadline last month made an impact, the Cowboys will miss the playoffs for a second consecutive season. Even though the team needs to rebuild a formidable offensive line to help Tyler Guyton and Tyler Smith, the Cowboys can’t ignore adding some ferocious help on the edge.
Dallas traded for Kenneth Murray Jr. in the wake of trading Micah Parsons to acquire some type of help, but he has been too inconsistent. There was hype around DeMarvion Overshown, but he hasn’t shown anything yet with his return. If the Cowboys want to add another star player to their defense, they should get Phillips if the Eagles let him walk.
Los Angeles Chargers
Meanwhile, Jim Harbaugh wants to build a trenches unit to help the Chargers and has proven that by trading for Odafe Oweh this season. Since Khalil Mack’s injury, the team has struggled to lean on their other outside linebackers due to injuries. The Chargers are expected to have a large cap space again, which means the team has the freedom to sign Phillips to a long-term deal, which would finally be their replacement after releasing Joey Bosa.
Washington Commanders
However, the Washington Commanders need a massive upgrade in their linebacker unit. The team brought in Von Miller before the start of the 2025 season to maximize Jayden Daniels on offense, but injuries have stopped another potential NFC Championship game run. With Miller and Bobby Wagner set to hit the market, the Commanders must rebuild the unit to help Frankie Luvu. Phillips is a perfect fit for this Washington defense that has struggled to make any type of real impact when Daniels was out.
