Tua Tagovailoa understands that he's under pressure this season

April 15, 2022 by Dolphins Wire

With the offseason that the Miami Dolphins have had to this point comes expectations.

Bringing in two starting offensive linemen, two running backs and two wide receivers along with a new offensive scheme and offensive-minded head coach should improve an offense that was sputtering for a good portion of the 2021 season.

That puts a lot of pressure on a guy like quarterback Tua Tagovailoa who is now expected to bring this offense from one that was 22nd in scoring (20.1 points per game) and 25th in yardage (307 yards per game) to a threat to score each time they step on the field.

This week, on the team-produced podcast “The Fish Talk” with Seth Levit and Dolphins legend OJ McDuffie, Tagovailoa was asked about the pressure that’s placed on his shoulders this year, and the “no excuses” mantra that’s being talked about in the media.

“I think pressure is everywhere, especially in our industry,” Tagovailoa said. “Pressure is just there. It’s one of those things where you’re either going to make use of this opportunity with the guys that we have or you’re not. That’s what it is, and so, for me, I’m looking forward to making use of this opportunity.”

Tagovailoa is a professional, and he’s essentially said the right things since the second he walked through the doors. He knows this is an opportunity that not every quarterback gets. He probably thinks, like many pundits, that he’ll have to nail this season if he wants to continue being the starting quarterback for this team.
