As Tyreek Hill attempts to rewrite the record books, he could emerge as a legitimate MVP candidate. However, the Miami Dolphins wide receiver playfully downplayed his chances.
When asked Thursday about the MVP race, Hill shouted out an unexpected teammate after saying he’s not Miami’s most valuable contributor.
“No. We have a player on this team that’s better than me and means more to this team than me,” Hill said, per ESPN’s Jeff Darlington. “And his name… is Alec Ingold.”

Maybe he’s just giving recognition to an unheralded teammate, but Hill was probably joking. Chances are he meant Tua Tagovailoa should stand above him in the MVP race.
Ingold has blocked for an offense first in rushing and passing yards through eight weeks. The fullback even has a whopping 62 scrimmage yards on four receptions.
He won’t receive any MVP votes, but Hill and Tagovailoa could each garner consideration.
With 1,014 receiving yards, Hill is on pace to eclipse Calvin Johnson’s single-season record mark. Perhaps the first 2,000-yard receiver in NFL history also has the chance to become the position’s first-ever MVP.
However, the past 10 winners have all played quarterback. If the Dolphins’ offense maintains their current level of dominance, Tagovailoa is more likely to take home the hardware.
The fourth-year signal-caller leads the league in passing yards (2,416) and quarterback rating (108.8) and is tied with Kirk Cousins for an NFL-high 18 passing touchdowns. He’s one of the MVP betting favorites alongside fellow quarterbacks Patrick Mahomes, Jalen Hurts, and Lamar Jackson.
Hill could push his way into the MVP conversation with a big showing against his former team this Sunday in Germany. The Dolphins will play the Kansas City Chiefs in a game with significant playoff and award ramifications.Â
