Why Ravens, Panthers May Target $15 Million Receiver In Trade

Why the Baltimore Ravens or Carolina Panthers may target $15 million receiver, Robert Woods in a trade this season. A Bleacher Report suggests that the veteran wideout remains a trade candidate this year after being expendable. Woods didn’t have a headlining year last season and he doesn’t look like he’ll get much playing time since the Texans will rely on Stefon Diggs, Nico Collins and Tank Dell. He appeared in 14 games with 11 starts, notching 40 passes for 426 and a touchdown and he may the field even less this season.

Woods will probably be a part of a future trade if Houston has another need in a position on their roster. However, it will have to be at the right price since the Texans wouldn’t be generous since they’re looking to be a contender this year. The Texans have every right to move on from Woods since they wouldn’t know how to use him and the 32-year-old isn’t getting any younger. He isn’t a superstar but the veteran could still be a reliable wideout in the league again for a contender like the Ravens that need one immediately.

Baltimore was hoping Nelson Agholor would be a reliant weapon for Lamar Jackson but Justice Hill has more catches than him so far. It’s unusual for a running back to have more catches than a receiver so adding someone like Woods could give Jackson another toy to work with. Zay Flowers and Rashod Bateman can only go so far if they have a high-end WR3 to complement them. Woods is no Odell Beckham Jr. but he could be a top option for Jackson in pressure situations next to rookie Isaiah Likely.

Any Help For Carolina

New reports are suggesting the Panthers could trade Diontae Johnson. The Panthers initially brought him in to help Adam Thielen but nothing is happening yet after the week one blowout loss. Carolina is still trying out a few options but they could use another wideout that needs a new scenery. Woods isn’t getting many reps in Houston but he could carve out a WR3 role for Bryce Young to give new life.

The Panthers probably won’t get much from Woods but it’s a chance for them to see what wideout works in their system, especially since they don’t have plenty of reliable weapons on the depth chart. Rookie Xavier Legette isn’t doing anything this season as growing pains are a thing and Thielen is getting older. Woods is also in the same boat as Thielen but it gives them some new life to get Xavier Legette and another potential future receiver on the right track.

Other Potential Trade Destinations

Los Angeles Chargers

The team ran the ball well in week one’s win over the Raiders but since DJ Chark will be out, any help for the passing attack would be viable. However, the outcome of the game showed they still need new life at the receiver position. Many could probably expect rookie Ladd McConkey to carry this passing offense since journeyman Joshua Palmer can only do what he can. Quentin Johnston hasn’t changed anyone’s mind, especially after his performance.

It may be safe for the Chargers to roll the dice on Woods to work in the same slot as McConkey to give Justin Herbert another weapon to move this offense in high-paced situations.

Kansas City Chiefs

There’s nothing wrong with too many receivers in the league. Xavier Worthy and Rashee Rice will be two reliable speedsters for Patrick Mahomes. However, some veteran presence could help receivers like JuJu Smith-Schuster, especially for Marquise Brown who will eventually come back from his injury. Don’t expect Woods to be a day one starter but he could carve out a role for himself in this offense to be wide open in crucial situations.

Miami Dolphins

The Dolphins were hoping that Beckham would be their WR3 deep threat but he’s dealing with an injury. He won’t come back anytime soon which is screaming for the Dolphins to get some help. Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle are vertical threats but they need someone in the slot making quick catches to make life easier for Tua Tagovailoa.
