Xavien Howard wants a trade.
The Miami Dolphins star defensive back publicly announced his trade demand at the start of training camp. Howard admitted that he was frustrated by the Dolphins’ unwillingness to work out a new contract.
“I’ve given by heart and soul to the Miami Dolphins franchise since they drafted me in 2016, and want to make it clear that I love my teammates,” Howard said in his statement. “They are my family. But what I’ve learned is that the business side of the NFL proves organizations don’t always have player’s best interest at heart.”
Howard admitted this weekend that he’s hopeful his situation will improve.
“Sure. I hope it gets better,” Howard said. “It’s a process. I’m hearing this and hearing that but nothing is getting done right now. Right now, I’m just here — out here every day, supporting the team and out here working.”
The ball appears to be in the Dolphins’ court for now, though.
Miami is currently in training camp, along with the rest of the football world. It’s possible that Howard will be traded before the start of the regular season.
The Dolphins open up the year on Sunday, Sept. 12 against the Patriots.
