Anthony Edwards rules himself out of next World Cup

August 15, 2024 by Hoops Hype

It usually happens. The NBA, like the U.S. national team, is affected by its cut status. Under a more or less predetermined system, the elite usually go to the Olympics, while the World Cup is usually reserved for second- and even third-line players. So it’s no surprise that Anthony Edwards has already said he doesn’t plan to be at the 2027 World Cup in Qatar.

After making the team to Paris 2024 with LeBron James, Stephen Curry or Kevin Durant, the Minnesota franchise player knows his place is with them. Winning the Olympic gold medal was great for him, and from now on it seems like he will only attend the legendary event that takes place every four years. And it’s not us who says that, it’s him.

Asked by Joe Vardon of The athlete When asked about the possibility of being with the team in 2027, the Timberwolves star replied in a way that was as brief as it was insightful: “Hell, no.”

Although there is still a long way to go until that moment comes, the trend has been what has happened recently; that is, stars have chosen to remove themselves from the World Cup finals and only think about attending the games. Of course, between now and 2027, the situation of many players may change.
