‘Anxious’ Heat Star Gets Real About All-Star Announcement

January 30, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Basketball

Tyler Herro and Bam Adebayo have been two the Heat's best players this season.

On Thursday night, the reserves for the 2025 NBA All-Star Game will be announced. We already know who the starters are, but the rest of the team will be official on Thursday. There are a lot of players in the league who will earn this honor for the first time in their careers. This includes Miami Heat guard Tyler Herro, who could be one of those players.

Now in his sixth season in the league, Herro is in the midst of a career year. Furthermore, three years after winning the Sixth Man of the Year award, the Milwaukee native revealed that he is “anxious” ahead of this year’s All-Star announcement.

“I’m pretty anxious, I ain’t gonna lie,” Herro said ahead of Wednesday night’s matchup between the Heat and Cleveland Cavaliers at Kaseya Center. “I feel like this is almost like my first time looking forward to something since draft night. It’s kind of like draft night, honestly. I’m waiting for it.”

Miami Heat’s Tyler Herro Reveals Why He Is ‘Anxious’ About All-Star Announcement

Tyler Herro’s Season With the Miami Heat

Through 44 games so far this season, Herro is averaging 24.1 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 5.4 assists. Additionally, he is shooting 47.4% from the field and 40% from the three-point line. All these numbers are career highs for Herro.

Recently, Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra said he is “hopeful” Herro gets voted in as an All-Star.

“I do think Tyler should be an All Star,” Spoelstra said. “His play speaks for itself. … I’m hopeful the coaches vote him in. That’s the ultimate respect. Opposing teams have to game plan against him. You have to spend a good deal of time in shootarounds and film sessions developing some kind of specific plan for him. In January, he’s been the most trapped player on pick and rolls. That’s a sign of great respect. His off-ball movement, all of those things have really improved. I think it will happen. I do. His play has been that consistent.”

Soon enough, both Spoelstra and Herro will have their answer.

Herro is also taking on a much larger role in Miami this season. With the uncertainty of Jimmy Butler‘s future in Miami, Herro is much more important for the Heat than ever before. This season, the Heat are 23-22. Additionally, they currently own the No. 6 seed in the Eastern Conference and are just three games back of the No. 4 seed Milwaukee Bucks.

The Last Word

The Eastern Conference has tons of talented players who could be in line for their first All-Star appearance. However, Herro certainly has a case to earn the nod. He is having a fantastic individual season and has played a key role for the Heat. Regardless, even if it does not happen this season, it is fair to assume Herro has an All-Star appearance in his near future. The 25-year-old has developed into a great player and should only continue to improve. However, it is obvious that he and the rest of the team are still hoping for him to get his recognition this year. With the announcement just a day away, Herro’s name is worth keeping an eye on.
