Adebayo continues to impress with his breakout performances this season.
A look at the successes of NBA players who have driven to the basket more than 250 times this season places him in elite company when sorted by Field Goal Percent.
- Chris Paul, 58 FG%
- Giannis Antetokounmpo, 58 FG%
- DeMar DeRozan, 57 FG%
- Bam Adebayo, 57 FG%
- Russell Westbrook, 57 FG%
A recent article mentions that Adebayo has less success when settling for jumpers in the paint and beyond:
- On 3 to 9 foot jumpers, 46 FG%
- On 10 to 15 foot jumpers, 41 FG%
- On 16 feet to 3-point line, 25 FG%
Compared to other players on the Heat, with over 100 drives to the rim, Adebayo is clearly the most efficient of the lot.
Bam Adebayo, 57 FG%
Kendrick Nunn, 50 FG%
Goran Dragic, 49 FG%
Tyler Herro, 45 FG%
Jimmy Butler, 43 FG%
Of the top five qualifying finishers on drives cited above, Adebayo is the only one under 25 years of age. Going forward limiting turnovers and passing out of drives are a couple of problem areas to fix.
At this stage Adebayo is still scratching the surface of his possibilities, as a rival coach admits.
Having five Adebayos or Butlers on the court together won’t work, neither will putting five Duncan Robinsons on the floor at the same time succeed. But combining players who compliment each other’s talents might have the Heat take a very late vacation this summer.
