It’s time to finally see the new-look Heat on the court tonight.
GAME STORY
The Miami Heat host the Atlanta Hawks tonight in their preseason opener in preparation for the 2021-22 NBA season. With six total preseason games, tonight’s home opener at the FTX Arena against their division rivals marks the first of three home preseason games – with two road games to follow against the Houston Rockets and San Antonio Spurs, then back home to face the Charlotte Hornets, a rematch in Atlanta and then returning to Miami to host the Boston Celtics.
While fans are eager to see newcomers like Kyle Lowry meshing with their new teammates, it likely won’t be for extended minutes. Luckily for Miami, they only have Victor Oladipo listed in the injury report as he continues to rehab from surgery — which will give coach Erik Spoelstra freedom to freely choose from his full training camp squad to fill out the rest of the minutes once the starting lineup gets their share of early minutes. With several preseason games to go ahead of the Oct. 21 season home opener against the defending champion Milwaukee Bucks, Spoelstra has time to sort out his rotation and make the necessary roster cuts.
For Atlanta they have several players out, including Clint Capela, so expect much of the same from the Hawks with starters like Trae Young playing big minutes in the first half and then largely resting in the second half.
