The Miami Heat were unaware that Terry Rozier III had been investigated for irregularities related to suspicious prop bets when they acquired him from the Charlotte Hornets in 2024.
The Heat owe the Hornets a lottery-protected 2027 first-round pick from the Rozier trade. That pick becomes an unprotected first-round pick in 2028 if it doesn’t convey in 2027.
Miami could file a grievance over the lack of disclosure of the investigation. However, it’s not expected that the Heat would win that grievance, as the language around what must be disclosed on a trade call doesn’t include investigations by the league.
In addition, the Heat still do not have clarity if they’d be able to trade Rozier this season. The veteran guard is currently on leave from the team, while his current situation related to a gambling arrest plays out. Rozier is on an expiring $26.6 million contract that Miami could use to bring in help via a trade.
