The Miami Heat are looking at ways to improve their roster ahead of next month’s NBA trade deadline. However, Miami is looking to do so without taking on long-term money. The Heat are focused on cap flexibility, particularly in the summer of 2027 when several star players such as Giannis Antetokounmpo, Donovan Mitchell and Nikola Jokic could be free agents.
With the above in mind, Miami has been as interested in trading for Ja Morant as some have suggested. While the Memphis Grizzlies are looking to find Morant a new home, that may not involve the Heat. Morant is owed $39.4 million this season, followed by $42.2 million in 2026-27 and $44.8 million in 2027-28.
That big, guaranteed money, with no options, runs counter to the Heat’s plan to conserve future cap space.
Bam Adebayo and Nikola Jovic are the only players currently under contract beyond the 2026-27 season.
