The Miami Heat made a trio of roster moves on Tuesday. The Heat exercised their $1.9 million team option for forward Keshad Johnson.
The 6-foot-7 forward played sparingly for Miami last season, but was productive in the G League. In 32 games with the Sioux Falls Skyforce, Johnson averaged 17.6 points, 8.3 rebounds, 1.3 steals and 1.2 blocks per game.
The Heat also tendered qualifying offers to Davion Mitchell and Dru Smith. That will make both players restricted free agents this offseason.
Mitchell became a key rotation player for Miami. The Heat hope to retain him, as they see him a good fit in their backcourt rotation.
Just as he was starting to get some run in the NBA, Smith tore his left Achilles’ tendon. This was just over a year after Smith tore his right ACL, after stepping off the edge of the court in the Cleveland. The Heat are still high on Smith’s potential and could sign him to a standard contract this offseason. Smith has no two-way eligibility remaining with Miami, due to playing three consecutive years on two-way deals with the Heat. The combo guard has one year of two-way eligibility remaining overall.
