Terry Rozier III remains away from the Miami Heat on leave. Rozier is being investigated for alleged involvement in gambling and fixing stats in games. The Heat have moved on without Rozier on the floor, but the team is still looking for clarity from the NBA as to the ability to trade the veteran guard.
Miami has not received guidance from the NBA as to their ability to put Rozier in a trade. Or more accurately put: to use Rozier’s expiring $26.6 million contract as salary matching in a deal.
When contacted by the South Florida Sun Sentinel, the NBA declined to say that the Heat are prohibited from including Rozier in any trades, but the team has not been given the go-ahead to do so either.
The Heat have gotten off to a 10-6 start this season, despite injuries to several key players. If Miami feels they are ready to make a playoff run, Rozier’s expiring deal could be an important piece of salary-matching in potential trades.
