Summer League sensation Yurtseven brings more size to the Heat bench.
After days of anticipation, it’s official!
The Miami Heat and 7-footer Omer Yurtseven have agreed to a two-year, $3.5 million deal. ESPN’s Bobby Marks was first with the deal, while the Miami Herald’s Barry Jackson was first with the full contractual details.

After appearing in 14 games with the Oklahoma City Blue in the G-League bubble — the affiliate to the Oklahoma City Thunder — Miami signed Yurtseven, 23, to a non-guaranteed two-year deal on May 14. With the Blue, Yurtseven, who went undrafted in the 2020 NBA Draft, averaged 15.2 points, 9.3 rebounds and 1.4 blocks in 21.1 minutes per game, knocking down 62.6 percent of his attempts while shooting 38.1 percent from 3-point range.
He did not suit up at any point with the Heat last season. His team option was declined on the Aug. 1 deadline, but remained with the Heat summer league team.
Yurtseven dominated in the California Classic, averaging 26.0 points, 13.5 rebounds and 2.0 blocks, shooting 54.1 percent from the floor and 45.5 percent from deep.

Now that he’s on a standard contract, Yurtseven can remain on the roster for the entire season and isn’t held back by the maximum 50 games allotted for two-way players, if Yurtseven were to have taken a two-way deal instead.
The Heat now have three players — Yurtseven, Gabe Vincent and Max Strus — on two-year, $3.5 million deals, all of which were signed this offseason. In total, the Heat have 13 players on the roster for the 2021-22 season, which would increase to 14 if Udonis Haslem re-ups for another season.

Kyle Lowry’s deal with the Heat is for three years, $85 million. That means it’s going to be very, very close, but I believe there is a way the Heat can avoid the luxury tax by keeping 14 players.
