Miami Heat Star Believes Teammate Should Get An All-Star Nod

November 14, 2024 by Last Word On Pro Basketball

The Tyler Herro All-Star case has fallen short for multiple seasons. Whether he has been injured, or the Eastern Conference guard competition has just been too deep, for many years, it has seemed that Herro has been on the edge of reaching his first All-Star game. The Tyler Herro All-Star case this year is as strong as ever. He is leading the Miami Heat and achieving career highs in multiple categories. Recently, his teammate Bam Adebayo spoke on why Herro deserves his first All-Star nod, and we are going to look at Herro’s stats to see if he is right.

Miami Heat Star Believes His Teammate Should Get An All-Star Nod

Herro’s Hot Night Against Detroit

In the Heat’s most recent game, an overtime loss in the Group Stage of the Emirates NBA Cup, Herro showed exactly how great he is. Herro scored 40 points and had eight assists, five rebounds, and four steals as well. These Tyler Herro stats were on an efficient 51.9% shooting from the field and 58.8% shooting from three.

Herro was the only reason that the Heat had a chance at all. He hit six threes in the fourth and helped push the game to overtime. His ten threes in the game tied a Miami Heat franchise record that he has reached one time before. Although the team lost, Herro’s performance had coaches and teammates alike singing his praises.

Bam Adebayo Praises Tyler Herro

After the game, Olympic gold medalist and NBA All-Star Bam Adebayo praised Herro’s play this season. Adebayo said,

“He’s having a hell of a year. He deserves that All-Star nod. We’ve been pushing him for three or four years to get that nod. He’s healthy, playing at his own pace, making decisions, making plays.”

This coming from Adebayo is meaningful. Adebayo has been the Heat’s most consistent and arguably their best player of the last few seasons. He has reached three All-Star games himself, so his word has weight.

The Tyler Herro All Star Case

Because the Miami Heat haven’t been playing well, Herro would have to make the All-Star team more based on his statistics than team success. That being said, along with the rest of the struggling Eastern Conference, don’t expect the Heat to remain under .500 all season long.

Kenny Beecham says Tyler Herro has been the most underrated player this season

“He’s been their best player on the Heat. Better than Jimmy, Bam, Highsmith. It’s been him. He’s one of main reasons of the few wins they have it’s been him down the stretch”

The Tyler Herro stats, however, do probably support All-Star consideration. The guard is averaging 24.9 points, 5.3 assists, and 5.2 rebounds per game this season. He is on pace for career highs in multiple categories like points (previous career high was 20.8), 3-point percentage (currently shooting 47.9%), and assists.

He ranks 14th in scoring in the league, which is impressive because he only scored a smidge over 20 points per game in other years. If the Heat are to get anyone on the All-Star team, it has to be Herro. He leads the team in scoring by almost nine points per game, leads in assists, and is third in rebounds per game despite being one of the team’s smaller players.

The Heat play again on Friday on the road against the Indiana Pacers.
