Shopping malls will provide space for delivery men – El Sol de México

Squares and malls will create spaces called delivery so that people who deliver from digital platforms can park their bikes or motorbikes for free and get free WiFi.

The Mexico City government has signed a cooperation agreement with the Association of Real Estate Developers, AC (ADI), in which representatives of the digital platforms Uber, Rappi and Didi attended, in order to ensure that delivery men have favorable conditions for the development of their activities in squares and shopping centers.

Under the agreement, the authorities are also seeking to ease congestion and cross roads freely for commercial establishments where the flow of delivery men is concentrated.

In this agreement, plazas and malls pledged to create accessible spaces called delivery areas, so that delivery men could park their bikes or motorbikes for free while they wait for orders to be allocated, prepared, and delivered.

Also, provide a free connection to your WiFi network; Provide spaces for the safe storage of helmets and/or backpacks owned by deliverymen; ensuring their free access and use of its facilities, including the use of restrooms; Assign security personnel to support and organize these workers during their stay in delivery areas; Extending commitments to all sector members to join this effort; As well as maintaining dialogue as a means of understanding to solve any other problem that may arise.

For their part, the digital platforms pledged to inform their distributors of the locations of the enabled delivery areas in the plazas and shopping centers, as well as direct them to them, in order to achieve free crossing on the roads surrounding the plazas and shopping centers. . ; The measures taken by these centers for the best development of their activities shall be published among the distributors.

The Head of the Digital Agency for Public Innovation, Jose Merino, celebrated the participation of ADI and the platforms to reach an agreement that allows delivery men to perform their work in better conditions and also ensures safety on public roads for residents.

In turn, ADI’s Director General, Maria Jose Fernandez Ross, stated that in coordination with the Mexico City government, they are working to find solutions to the challenges posed by new economic models, such as the use of phone delivery apps. In doing so, it creates a better city for the benefit of all its inhabitants.

For his part, Secretary of Economic Development Fadla Akabani Hanayd stressed that dialogue will always be the best way to resolve differences that may arise between the concerned economic actors.

At the beginning of 2020, Rappi had about 30,000 delivery workers, but with the pandemic those increased to more than 50,000. For its part, Didi Food reported that it also had 50,000 members distributing food.
