(CNN) –– Snow-covered bridge Pittsburgh It collapsed Friday morning, just hours before President Joe Biden’s scheduled trip to discuss infrastructure.
No casualties have been reported so far, Pittsburgh Mayor Ed Cainy told a news conference at the scene.
Pittsburgh Fire Chief Daryl Jones said there were 10 “minor injuries.” He said three people were also taken away from the scene. None of the injuries were life-threatening, he said.
The fire department official also explained that three or four vehicles were on the bridge when it collapsed. Jones said teams were still spying to make sure no one was under the bridge when it collapsed.

On Friday, January 28, 2022, a Port Authority bus crashed into a bridge.
The Allegheny County Police Department was notified that a section of the bridge collapsed just after 6 a.m. Friday, district spokeswoman Amy Towns said. In addition, he pointed out that only minor injuries were reported, including the driver of a limousine bus and two passengers.
Gas connection breakdown
The landslide also broke the natural gas connection in the area, Downs, and closed it. There are some reports that people in the area are unwell due to natural gas and that people are being treated at the site, the official continued.
People’s Case spokeswoman Barry Kukovich confirmed the presence of a gas supply line on the collapsed bridge. “It goes under the road and goes under the bridge.
There is currently no evidence of a gas explosion before the collapse, Kukovich said. He described the gas route as a supply route, but said it had no high-pressure gas connection.
The People’s Case team is assessing the situation at the site, Kukovich added. Meanwhile, nearby customers are experiencing “minimal service interruptions”.
Just hours before Biden arrived in Pittsburgh
The collapse comes just hours before the president’s visit பிடன் The city plans to talk about infrastructure. The White House later said the president was aware of the crash, which took place about 9 kilometers from where he was expected to make some comments. The report indicated that Biden would continue his journey.
“The bridge in Pittsburgh was explained to the president. Our team is in contact with state and local authorities as we continue to gather information on the cause of the collapse,” the White House said in a statement.
“The president thanked the first responders who rushed to help the drivers who were on the bridge at the time,” the statement added.
The bridge to Pittsburgh is a ‘major artery’, the official says
In an interview with CNN’s New Day, Pennsylvania Lieutenant Governor John Fitterman called the bridge in the Pittsburgh area the “main artery.” The bridge crosses Frick Park, one of the largest parks in the city.
“Fortunately, schools were two hours late due to the weather, so the traffic on a regular day was less than normal,” Fitterman added.
Asked about the decline on the same day as the president’s visit, Federman, a Democrat, said, “It’s a terrible way to underscore how important our infrastructure needs are in this country.”
The official added, “It was Surreal, the entire length of the bridge collapsed into the park and the sidewalk below.”
“Be so scared”
Jeremy Hapowski told CNN that he feels lucky to be alive after escaping the slump. He and the other drivers were unable to stop in a timely manner after crossing the bridge, he said.
“The scary part was definitely going over the edge because there was a gap and my car came off the ground,” he told CNN. His car and others are now in the rest of the bridge.
When things calmed down, Habowski checked another driver, he said. He then climbed the mountain to avoid colliding with other drivers in the rubble.
“There was a lot to take,” he told CNN.
Greg Barnhisel told CNN he and his wife walked from their nearby home to see the remains of the bridge.
“We live 400 meters from the bridge. We did not hear it collapsed,” he said. “When we got to the crash site, the roar and smell of broken gas wire was high.”
Wendy Straw, another resident nearby, told CNN subsidiary KDKA that she had heard of the crash but thought it was “pushing up a huge snowfall on the snow-free asphalt surface”.
“Be very scared,” he said. “God, these ambulances and fire trucks and all. The thought of the bridge collapsing is so frightening. I will always walk across that bridge.”
