American Kyleb Dressel won the 100-meter freestyle at the Tokyo Olympics.
Dressel also set a new Olympic record 47.02 seconds In the final test.
Australian Kyle Salmers won gold in Rio 2016, while Russian Clement Kolsnikov took bronze and placed third.
The American swimmer entered the race beating Kolsnikov.
It Fourth gold medal for Trace, but first individual, After two relay medals at Rio 2016 and a 4x100m freestyle medal in Tokyo.
The 24-year-old star could not hide the excitement behind his success.
“I don’t know if I’ve processed this yet. It’s been a very difficult year, there’s a lot. I’m very happy,” he said in tears during a video conference link in the United States.
It was a successful day for American swimming in Tokyo as another of its swimmers, Bobby Finke, won gold in the 800-meter freestyle final.
