MIAMI — Heat guard Tyler Herro will undergo surgery on his left foot and ankle. Five Reasons Sports Network say he will be sidelined until November. The injury has lingered since the summer despite several attempts to avoid surgery. Herro previously received cortisone shots and foot treatments in hopes of easing discomfort. But the pain persisted, leaving surgery as the only option. The procedure is scheduled for Friday, with an official timetable to follow.

A Rising Star Sidetracked
Herro enters his seventh season with the Heat at age 25. He posted a career-best year last season averaging 23.9 points and 5.5 assists. He also shot 37.5% from three, earned his first All-Star nod, and claimed the three-point contest crown.
Losing Herro early creates a gap in Miami’s offense. The guard was the team’s leading scorer and a central part of Erik Spoelstra’s plans. Davion Mitchell is expected to step into the starting lineup during Herro’s absence.
The Heat know November games matter less than April ones, but Herro’s timing raises concerns. A surgery this close to camp suggests the problem ran deeper than initially believed.
Contract Talks Loom
Herro’s injury also arrives at a pivotal contract moment. On October 1, the Heat can begin talks on a three-year, $149.7 million extension. He still has two years and $64 million left on his current deal.
If the two sides don’t reach an agreement by October 20, Herro will instead become eligible for a four-year, $206.9 million extension next summer. His representatives and the Heat are expected to meet in early October.
Looking Ahead
For Miami, the season opens with uncertainty. Training camp starts September 30 without their lead scorer. Herro’s absence dims the optimism Heat fans carried after strong reviews of their offseason moves.
The Heat’s focus will remain on his recovery, the success of his surgery, and how quickly Tyler Herro’s foot/ankle issues can be resolved. For now, Miami must navigate a tricky start without its most reliable scorer.
