the Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Tito Jose Cristian, President and Founder VaxThera (One of the Sura companies), Jorge Emilio Osorio Benítez, signed a Memorandum of Understanding, through which they will join efforts to enhance biotechnology capabilities in the country, emphasizing Vaccines and other health technologies that allow Colombia to regain its pharmaceutical independence.

“I am honored to announce to the Colombians the signing of this Memorandum of Understanding with VaxThera. In addition to contributing to the strengthening of biotechnology capabilities in the country, this commitment will allow us to enhance the education and training of specialized personnel, through high-level training programs,” explained Minister Cressen.
The senior official added, “This cooperation will allow, through research, development and innovation, progress in the development of new vaccines and other technologies in the field of health, which will allow the country to act preemptively against current or future health emergencies.”

Within the MoU, it is also envisioned that the Colombian researchers have the possibility to conduct their internships at the VaxThera plant and in the laboratories with which the company works in Wisconsin, in the United States.
“Through this agreement, we will seek to ensure the priorities of the expanded immunization plan through scientific, technological and innovative promotion in the development of vaccines and other health technologies; also, the formation and training of health professionals in the country will be strengthened, and with it, the capacity of research, development and innovation in terms of structure will be strengthened infrastructure, making Colombia a center for biotechnology research in the country’s region,” emphasized Jorge Emilio Osorio, CEO of VaxThera.
During the event where the MoU was signed, Sergio Cristancho, Deputy Minister of Knowledge, Innovation and Productivity. José Manuel Luc, Deputy Minister for Talent and Social Acquisition of Knowledge; Felipe Gillin, Adviser to the Minister of Health and other members of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.
