The Golden State Warriors are exploring a potential trade that would send Jonathan Kuminga to the Miami Heat in exchange for Andrew Wiggins, league sources told The Stein Line. The deal would bring Wiggins back to the Bay Area after he was traded to Miami last February for Jimmy Butler.
However, the Warriors are also considering keeping Kuminga beyond the trade deadline in hopes that extended playing time rebuilds his diminished value. This option remains on the table despite significant tension between the parties since last summer’s contentious restricted free agency negotiations.
Golden State is weighing the possibility of picking up Kuminga’s $24.3 million team option for next season. That move would allow the franchise to include his salary in a more substantial offseason trade.
Wiggins holds a player option for the 2026-27 season worth $30.2 million and is currently averaging 15.9 points, 4.9 rebounds and 2.8 assists with Miami. He is shooting 39.8 percent from the field this season with the Heat.
The potential swap represents a reunion between Wiggins and his former team. The relationship between Kuminga and the Warriors has deteriorated following failed contract extension talks during the offseason whereas Wiggins has been a cleaner fit in Steve Kerr’s system.
Golden State faces a deadline decision on whether to move Kuminga now or retain him through the remainder of the season. The organization must balance immediate roster needs against the possibility of maximizing his trade value in future negotiations.
