Which former Marlins players starred elsewhere during this past MLB regular season?
The Marlins have not been particularly loyal to their players through the years—everybody eventually gets traded or unceremoniously released, or if they’re fortunate, makes it to free agency and winds up going to a higher bidder elsewhere. As a result, there’s been a diaspora of former Fish. Nearly every other MLB team employs at least one Old Friend.
At the All-Star break, I highlighted familiar faces who were having success elsewhere. Might as well update the “roster” now that the 2021 regular season has concluded!
This team construction mirrors that of a normal MLB active roster: 26 selections evenly split between position players and pitchers. Eligibility for the All-Old Friends Team goes to individuals who played at least one complete regular season with the Marlins or those who spent at least one full calendar year in the organization as a prospect. Starling Marte and Kiké Hernández, for example, fall short of those thresholds, therefore the pitching staff is much deeper than the lineup.
Marlins fans, who do you miss the most?
