Support for Marlins new GM Kim Ng – the first female GM in MLB, the first Asian American GM in MLB and the first women to serve as GM in any major American men’s sports league – has been wide spread across and even beyond sports. But perhaps Ng’s biggest supporter is her own manager.
“I heard someone say it the other day, the greatest thing about this is she got the job by being qualified for it and being the best person for it,” said Marlins manager Don Mattingly.
Mattingly, fresh off winning the NL Manager of the Year award, has worked with Ng in the past and describes her as someone that “knows her job, knows it well, knows the ins and outs, she is competitive” and says he enjoys working with her.
Ng’s experience and resume in MLB is why Mattingly told Hoch and Crowder she is the best person for the job. An internship with the White Sox is where her career began before stops in New York and Los Angeles, including three World Series titles as assistant GM with the Yankees.
