Paul Severino, the television voice of the Marlins, details what it’s like having his “dream job” and the journey that took him here.
Paul Severino is entering his fourth season as Miami Marlins play-by-play announcer. How does a major league broadcast work in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic? What’s his relationship like with boyhood idol Don Mattingly? Where did the “It’s a Marlins win!” tagline come from? Does the TV network’s rebrand into Bally Sports Florida change anything for him? And what’s he got on the menu for the next BBQ at the Severino household?! Alex Contreras and Ely Sussman get some answers.
Enjoy Episode 26!
It was not yet official when this conversation was recorded, but Bally Sports Florida finally announced on Wednesday that they’ll be producing and televising every 2021 Marlins regular season game. Severino will be on the mic for the vast majority of them alongside color analyst Todd Hollandsworth. At least for the early portion of season, he says Marlins road games will be called remotely due to COVID-19 concerns (as was the case throughout 2020).
