The Miami Marlins had plenty of roster moves to make amidst a season of struggles where they’ve started 6-22. The Marlins roster shuffle started with slugger Avisail Garcia headed to the injured list with a left hamstring strain. Left-hander Kent Emanuel was designated for assignment as well. In their place, the Marlins recalled outfielder Dane Myers and selected the contract of pitcher Emmanuel Ramirez.

Marlins Roster Moves Headlined by Garcia
Garcia signed a four-year $53 million contract before the start of the 2022 season. Since then, he’s been a shell of his former self, batting .218/.260/.322 and struggling to stay on the field.
This season is no different, and Garcia, as Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reported, finds himself on the IL once again with a hamstring strain.

He was off to a decent start this season, hitting .240/.255/.380 with two home runs. While a 76 OPS+ isn’t great, staying healthy was key for Garcia to return to his All-Star form.
Dane Myers is taking his place. The Marlins added Myers to their roster through the minor league portion of the 2022 Rule 5 Draft. He made it to the big leagues in 2023 at the age of 27. He hit .269/.286/.358 with one home run across 22 games. Myers has started off the 2024 season in similar fashion, hitting .237/.336/.323 with one home run in 25 games at Triple-A.
Myers will likely be in a platoon situation with left-handers Nick Gordon and Jesus Sanchez already on the roster.
Marlins Select Emmanuel Ramirez
Ramirez is similar to Dane Myers in that he’s spent most of his 20s in the minors. In fact, Ramirez has never made it to the major league level. He’ll be given a shot to stick on the Marlins roster with Kent Emanuel finding himself in roster limbo for the second time this season by the Miami Marlins.
The Marlins signed Ramirez to a minor league contract, where he’s been with Triple-A Pensacola this season. He’s logged 11.2 innings to a 3.86 ERA. Ramirez has always had decent strikeout numbers, including 16 this year for a 12.3 K/9.
He’ll look to contribute to a Marlins bullpen that has allowed 61 earned runs, the third-most in MLB. Walks have been a huge detriment to the club as their relief corps has surrendered 57 of them, leading to a lot of traffic.
This iteration of the Marlins roster is a far cry from the playoff team we saw a year ago. These moves fill the holes of a Marlins club that will likely have a lost season again in 2024.
