- FiveThirtyEight gives the Marlins a 51% chance to win their series opener against the Phillies.
- Jesús Sánchez (right hamstring tightness) and Edward Cabrera (right middle finger blister) both exited Thursday’s loss early. Cabrera said postgame that he plans to continue building up his workload by pitching for Estrellas Orientales in the Dominican Winter League. He combined for 87 2⁄3 innings pitched with the Marlins and their minor league affiliates.
- Pablo López (right rotator cuff strain) will start for the Marlins in Sunday’s regular season finale, making his first MLB appearance since July 11. He’ll be on a tight leash (max of 40-45 pitches/three innings).
- Congrats to Brittany and Joe Panik, who are expecting their first child in the coming days. Don Mattingly announced that Panik is spending the final days of the season with her instead of with the team (it’s unclear if he will be formally placed on the paternity list).
- Isan Díaz homered for the 34th time in 165 career Triple-A games. That production is a stark contrast from his major league career (9 HR in 145 G).
- Joon Lee has a detailed feature on ESPN about the inadequacies of the Minor League Baseball salary structure. Inside, he reports that Double-A Pensacola owner Quint Studer has purchased three homes near Blue Wahoos stadium that will be able to house about half of the team’s roster next season. Generous move by Studer to cover for the inaction of the Marlins and Major League Baseball.
- MLB Pipeline considers Peyton Burdick and Max Meyer the Prospects of the Year for the Marlins organization (this is not to be confused with the annual awards that the organization itself will be handing out). Baseball America ranks Eury Pérez fifth among all prospects who spent their season in the Low-A Southeast league.
- The Marlins fired veteran Southern California area scout Tim McDonnell, according to BA’s Kyle Glaser.
