- Wednesday’s minor league scores: Triple-A Jacksonville won, 9-8; Double-A Pensacola resumed a suspended game in the 10th inning and lost, 8-7, then won their regularly scheduled game, 7-2; High-A Beloit won, 8-1; Low-A Jupiter won, 8-1; FCL Marlins won, 5-2. Should this be considered an organizational sweep? The lone loss came from the suspended game which began on Tuesday.
- Pensacola debuted its Crabzilla uniforms and mashed a handful of homers, including Griffin Conine’s 30th of the year, which leads the minor leagues. You can bid on these signed, game-worn “worst uniforms of all time” right here.
- Very encouraging start to Jesús Sánchez’s minor league rehab assignment, playing the full game (four plate appearances) at designated hitter and going yard once. Barring setbacks, he’ll rejoin the big league club before the end of this upcoming homestand.
- On the heels of another big day at the plate, Lewis Brinson was briefly the most intriguing player in baseball, non-Shohei Ohtani division.
- Don Mattingly explains why he holds his tongue and defers to his coaches when it comes to developing Marlins hitters.
- With Mattingly expected back on Friday, James Rowson has completed his stint as acting manager. The Marlins went 4-8 in those games with a minus-19 run differential.
- Every remaining Marlins game this season will be played in the eastern time zone (all scheduled first pitches are 7:20 p.m. ET or earlier).
- Less than two weeks into his Brewers tenure, John Curtiss has suffered a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow. That certainly closes the book on his 2021 campaign and could limit his availability for 2022 as well—repairing the UCL often requires Tommy John surgery. Curtiss had uncharacteristically allowed eight runs (six earned runs) in his first 4 1⁄3 innings pitched with the Brew Crew. We wish him a full recovery!
