- FiveThirtyEight gives the Marlins a 35% chance to win their series finale against the Mets. An upset would clinch a season series victory for the Fish over New York for the first time since 2017.
- Thanks to his game-winning, two-run single, Miguel Rojas produced .365 Win Probability Added as a batter on Wednesday. It’s his highest single-game total of the 2021 season and sixth-highest of his career, according to Stathead.
- The Marlins have moved back into fourth place in the NL East standings. They’re on pace to receive the sixth overall pick in the 2022 MLB Draft.
- Updating the postseason races, the Mariners won for the 10th time in their last 11 games, officially eliminating Starling Marte and the Athletics. The M’s, Yankees, Red Sox and Blue Jays are separated by two games for the American League’s two Wild Card spots. The Giants reached 104 wins, their highest total since moving the San Francisco. They’ll have home-field advantage throughout October…if they can hold off the Dodgers for the NL West division title.
- As Craig Mish points out, contracts for many major league coaches are about to expire. Mish assumes pitching coach Mel Stottlemyre Jr. will be renewed. However, I wouldn’t be surprised if the Marlins make changes elsewhere on Don Mattingly’s staff considering the team’s struggles in most other facets of the game.
- Mattingly’s son, Preston, was announced as the new director of player development for the rival Phillies.
- Shawn Morimando will pitch for Taiwan’s CTBC Brothers in 2022 (h/t CPBL Stats). The left-hander led Triple-A Jacksonville with 89 2⁄3 innings pitched this season—4.32 ERA, 5.01 FIP, 1.35 WHIP in 18 G/16 GS—and also had three brief stints on the Marlins active roster.
