MIAMI (CBSMiami) – A confrontation led to a deadly shooting in southwest Miami-Dade late Sunday afternoon.
Miami-Dade police said around 5:30 p.m. they received a ShotSpotter alert in the 10600 block of SW 170th Street.
When officers arrived, they found a 32-year-old Edwin Molina who had been shot. He was taken to Jackson South Trauma Center where he died.
Molina’s mother Linda Taylor said she was stunned when she received word that he had died.
“I would like to get some answers. I would like to know what happened. I would like to know what provoked the situation,” she said.
Taylor said she didn’t understand how this could happen and why her son was involved.
“He was a hard-working kid. He wasn’t bad. He never had any problems with the police. No drugs, nothing like that. He was a locksmith and he was working,” she said.
A 26-year-old man accused of shooting Molina with a shotgun was detained for questioning.
“We’re trying to figure out exactly what happened in this altercation and why a firearm was presented and obviously fired,” said Miami-Dade police spokesman Luis Sierra.
So far he has not been charged in the shooting.
“It’s just crazy what’s going on with all this violence. He was only 32. He was just 32-years-old and now he was gone and for what,” questioned Taylor.
After questioning, the 26-year-old was taken to a local hospital for an involuntary medical evaluation.
Initial reports indicated that the shooting may have involved a home intruder, this is still under investigation. Taylor believes her son might’ve been working as a locksmith when he was shot.
