Miami Marlins games are tough to stomach right now. So many at-bats are being taken by mediocre players who nobody trusts to get the job done. Ely Sussman discusses what we’ve seen from Magneuris Sierra (5:10), Jorge Alfaro (12:45), Isan Díaz (23:00) and Lewis Brinson (32:45) during their Miami tenures. How much longer until the team admits that these relatively young players aren’t pieces of their future?

Following the Miami Herald’s report that the Marlins front office is “ready to move on” from Alfaro (.247/.297/.386, 84 wRC+, 1.6 fWAR in Marlins career), I recommend that they cut the cord immediately, opening up playing time for Alex Jackson and/or Brian Navarreto down the stretch.
Sierra (.234/.280/.276, 53 wRC+, -0.7 fWAR) should be designated for assignment whenever Jesús Sánchez returns from the injured list. Díaz (.173/.271/.278, 53 wRC+, -1.7 fWAR) has no role on the current major league roster—option him to Triple-A and explore trades for him in the offseason. Brinson (.198/.244/.314, 52 wRC+, -2.8 fWAR) is the only one of this quartet trending in a semi-encouraging direction. No harm done by continuing to utilize him as a platoon outfielder.
