Before turning our focus to potential offseason acquisitions, let’s talk about addition by subtraction.
In the first Fish Stripes podcast episode of the 2021-22 Marlins offseason, Ely Sussman announces Ethan Budowsky’s exciting career move, then explains why he doesn’t see Isan Díaz, Jorge Alfaro and Elieser Hernandez (among others) being in the Marlins’ future plans.

Time to trim the fat from the Marlins organization. They enter the offseason having 40 roster spots for 48 players, with Jesús Aguilar, Brian Anderson, Jon Berti, Jeff Brigham, Garrett Cooper, José Devers, Jorge Guzman and Cody Poteet pending reinstatement from the 60-day injured list. That’s without even considering Rule 5 draft-eligible prospects who are worth protecting next month.
The tentative Fish Stripes podcast schedule for this offseason is as follows:
- Tuesday mornings—Big Fish Small Pod hosted by Daniel Rodriguez
- Wednesday mornings—The Offishial Show (hosted by me!)
- Friday mornings—Big Fish Small Pod hosted by A.T. Werdal
- Every other Saturday—Fish Stripes Unfiltered hosted by Isaac Azout and Kevin Barral
