Miller played parts of last season in the Big Apple following a late January trade with Vancouver. Miller was one of the Rangers’ leading scorers and tied for 13th in the NHL after joining the Rangers. It is Miller’s second stint with the team.
“Since his arrival last season, J.T. immediately became a leader for our group and exemplifies how we want to conduct ourselves both on and off the ice,” general manager Chris Drury said. “Congratulations to J.T. and his entire family on an incredibly meaningful achievement, and we’re confident he will continue to represent our organization with class, commitment and integrity.”
Rangers Needed a Captain
After trading captain Jacob Trouba to the Anaheim Ducks last season, the Rangers went the remainder of the season without a captain. Many expected the team to choose a captain before training camp opened. With the beginning of training camp days away, the Rangers have indeed selected their next captain.
Controversial Pick?
Miller may display the qualities needed of a captain, but there may be some controversy surrounding the choice. Many thought defenceman Adam Fox was next in line for the captaincy. Evidently, the Rangers organization felt differently.
It will be interesting to see if there is any backlash for the selection, whether it be from the team or the fans.
