CF Montréal loses third-straight game as they blew a 1-0 lead against Inter Miami CF. Montreal made the trip back to South Florida to face Inter Miami a team that was on a seven-game winless streak while Montreal was coming off a loss of its own six days ago to the New England Revolution and currently sat in seventh place before kickoff. Samuel Piette and Kamal Miller were not in the lineup after returning from international duty representing Canada at the Gold Cup.

CF Montréal loses third-straight MLS season game

First Half – Positive start for CF Montréal

Two minutes in Mason Toye thought he scored when he got a great feed from Zachary Brault-Guillard but the ball just missed the net and the visitors were putting pressure early on the home side. Montreal kept applying the pressure and the first five minutes of the game were spent in the offensive zone looking for the early goal.

Inter Miami got their first official shot on target in the 10-minute but James Pantemis who got the start in goal tonight made his first big save and a couple of minutes later Inter Miami keeper Nick Marshman made his first save on Djordje Mihailovic.

Montreal got the first goal of the game off a loose rebound in front of the net in the 20-minute mark and Joaquin Torres would put it into the back of the net for the 1-0 lead. In the play, Marshman stayed down for several moments but stayed in the game after being seen by the team’s medical staff.

At the 30-minute, the ref called a hydration break and at the 30-minute mark, Montreal was dominating in possession 65-35 percent, and in the 40-minute, Pantemis was called into the action of a dangerous corner and made a spectacular diving punch save.

The halftime whistle blew and after 45 minutes of play Montreal was holding on to its 1-0 lead heading into the break and 45 minutes away from snapping its two-game losing streak.

The second half started with some drama as Gonzalo Higuain was tripped in the box and the ref pointed to the spot and Higuain tied the game at one. The next 10 minutes was back and forth as both teams were looking for that go-ahead goal but lacked finish.

Mason Toye thought he gave Montreal the lead when he out deked Marshman but his shot went over the net. The game stayed tied and several minutes later Miami would take the lead as Higuain would force a turnover and beat Pantemis with a great shot to make it 2-1 for the home side.

In the 75-minute, Montreal made its first change of the game bringing in Ibrahim for Hamdi looking for an offensive spark to try and tie the game, and three minutes we went into our second hydration break of the game. A couple of minutes later Miami continued to control the game and had a great scoring chance that was denied by Pantemis.

Six minutes of time was added to the final 90 minutes. However, it wasn’t enough as Montreal would suffer its third-straight loss. Montreal will now head home to face Atlanta United FC on August 4th at Stade Saputo. The Canadian federal government announced earlier this week will be home for the rest of the MLS season.
